Guide Info and Tips

Guides,

Most of you all are veterans, but…

Demonstration Tips

  1. Let’em have fun and lots of it.
  2. In general, they should be playing, rolling dice, and doing something in 60 seconds from sitting down - I'm very serious about this, these are the demos I have the most fun at.
  3. Clarification on rule #2: don’t explain the rules upfront, teach as you go and as needed, they’ll ask for any missing gaps, suggest their first couple of moves and then let’em play. Simply hand them the sheet or cards, sit’em down and go at it.
  4. Clarification on rule #3: If I catch someone wasting the first 5+ minutes explaining the character sheet and game statistics, I’ll make you listen to a stories about Plumme Fulle (he's a PC of mine who's a little long winded) all evening!! You have been warned.
  5. If you are not having a blast, let me know and I’ll do what I can so you do.
  6. You represent FlatCon, so do be kind to people.
  7. Any problems, any hassles, etc… turn it over to me, I will do my best to take care of it, i.e. don’t hack off the convention staff, players, other guides or other exhibitors.
  8. OK, no TPKs (total player kill), unless they ask for it. Don’t hack a potential player who paid to be a hero for 4 hours. Some people are cool with it and if you are sure they are having fun, slay’em.
  9. Be there 15 minutes early, rested and alert (don’t make me panic).
  10. Wait a full 15 minutes before canceling your game due to no-shows. Gamers are notoriously late.
  11. Work all subs and swaps out amongst yourselves. BE POSITIVE YOU ARE COVERED, you won’t like me when I’m angry (only kind of kidding).
  12. Bring your own gaming materials: cards, character sheets, dice, yes even pencils, etc... for 8 players (10 is nice, things happen). Card demos may be handled a little different, like two+ demo decks.
  13. Have the game ready to start as nearly on-time as possible. For card games, I often stack two "starter" decks for ease of play and exposure to the game. For rpgs, I have a variety of characters, but all action characters for a 4-hour demo (no one wants to play the hanging back medic). For boards and minis, start the game so the action can start fast and furious, heck even tell what to do the first turn or two.
  14. Please come by and say hi to me. I'll be real busy, but I want to thank each of you personally.
See you at the Convention, C David Ross
